PORT ARTHUR — One man is dead after a fire and explosion at Figueroa Auto Body Collision, 6120 Gulfway Drive in Port Arthur.
Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Joseph Guillory II confirms one person is dead following the fire at about 6 p.m.
He’s ordered an autopsy.
They have identified the man and his family has been notified, but they’re not ready to release his name at this time.
Other workers were at the business and they weren’t hurt.
The Port Arthur Fire Department is investigating the cause.
Investigators believe a spark ignited a gas can.
“I am deeply saddened by the reported fatal fire and explosion at a business on Gulfway Drive,” Guillory told KFDM. “My heartfelt condolences go to the family, friends, and everyone affected by this tragedy. I ask the community to keep them in prayer and allow the appropriate authorities to complete their investigation. Out of respect for the family, I will not speculate about the cause or release unconfirmed details.”
