Dig deeper:

Soliman had previously pleaded not guilty after he was accused of throwing two Molotov cocktails during the demonstration at a pedestrian mall. Eighty-two-year-old Karen Sorin Diamond, who was injured in the attack, later died. A dozen others were also injured.

Soliman is an Egyptian national who federal authorities said was living in the U.S. illegally. Investigators said he planned the attack for a year and was driven by a desire “to kill all Zionist people.”

What they’re saying:

“The chaos inflicted by this defendant spread its seeds far beyond Pearl Street, Boulder, and Colorado,” said Special Agent in Charge Amanda Koldjeski of the FBI Denver Field Office. “FBI Denver is proud of the role we played in this case alongside our partners in Boulder: We do not tolerate acts of hate and terror against our neighbors. We will continue to work to keep our community safe and seek justice for victims.”

What’s next:

Soliman could face up to life in prison for his crimes.

His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Jan. 7, 2027, according to a Justice Department news release.
