Here we go again — that twice-a-year ritual of changing our clocks and wondering why we still do this.
Daylight Saving Time ends at 2:00 AM local time on Sunday, November 1, across most of the United States. We set our clocks back one hour. (The ole “fall back” saying. And it’s Daylight Saving. Not “Savings.” That’s a bank account.)
For travelers, this is the better of the two time changes. Forgetting to set your clock back generally means showing up an hour early rather than missing your flight. And really, an extra hour at the airport isn’t the worst thing in the world. (Unless nothing’s open yet.)
Still, if you have travel plans Sunday, double-check your departure times and alarms before heading to the airport, train station, cruise port, or bus station.
Most smartphones automatically adjust for the time change, as long as that setting is enabled. But remember that hotel room alarm clocks don’t always make the switch. And don’t forget those clocks on your microwave, oven, car, etc.
If you’re traveling overnight, I’d especially recommend checking your airline’s app rather than trying to figure out the time change yourself.
By the way, Hawaii and most of Arizona don’t observe Daylight Saving Time.
Enjoy that extra hour of sleep!
